Standard Day Challenge

The next Standard Day Challenge will be run in conjunction with the combined County Champs
For info on this event click on the link above once you have read through the FAQ

The Main points of the day are:-

Maximise the number of tournaments you can play while limiting cost.
Chance to change your deck between knock out tournaments and challenges.
You're not stuck having the play the same deck all day.
You can earn more Magic rewards cards because you play more events.
Greater chance to earn DCI ranking points.
Higher level of prize support than a standard swiss pairings event.
You can come and go as you wish, playing all day or just for a few hours.

So how does it work?

You participate in as many 8 player DCI sanctioned single elimination tournaments as possible. The only limit is you will need to find 7 other free players. When you lose in a single elimination tournament you are entered automatically into the next one. Once that event is full it starts.

So how do I win?

On the day every tournament match you play will score points, your earn points depending on how you place in each event.

You earn:

5 points for winning an event
4 points for coming 2nd
2 points for coming 3rd or 4th
1 point for the remaining 4 places

4 points can be traded for a Booster Pack

Keep in mind that your points are added up through the day, so you could obtain your first 4 points via multiple ways:-

E.g.

A 2nd place finish will accumulate 4 points thus giving you a booster.
A 3rd place and 2 8th places finishes will also give 4 points thus a booster.

The prizes will be awarded at the end of the day once you present your score sheet.

What happens if I drop from a single elimination tournament?

You are considered to have dropped from the standard challenge day. You will be asked to hand in your score sheet and you points will be added up and used to determine your prizes. If you wish to continue you will have to pay to enter again and your daily points total will start again.

What are the Prizes?

Prizes will be awarded based on the accumulated points obtianed by the results of each single elimination tournament.
Every player has the chance to get prizes. Prizes will be an equal mix made from the current prize support block.

The Total Prizes pool will be made up of:-
4 boosters supplied by wizards per 8 player event
1 booster supplied by MTGPLYMOUTH per player who attends.

E.g.

16 players turn up and in total we run 8 events there would be 48 boosters (opposed to 8 boosters for a Swiss event) to be given out.

Each single elimination winner will get 5 points regardless of overall position and 2nd place will get 4 points ....
The remaining boosters will be awarded when players accumulate 4 points.

When can i grab my prizes?
You can grab your prizes either when you choose to end your day or when you and 7 other players with 12 points want to draft.

So with a possible 48 boosters in prize support how much is this going to cost?
Just £5, the normal cost of a Swiss standard event. If you turn up before 1pm you also receive an additional 2 Points, 1/2 Booster.

Sounds great, when does it start?
First tournament will start at 12 noon but if you can't turn up for 12 you can still sign up at any point of the day and take part.
You just have less time to score those all important points.

12 noon sounds late what time does it finish?
The venue is open until 11pm. So the last single eliminations needs to start before 9pm, once they finish the day ends.

I dont want to be stuck playing type 2 all day whats the deal with booster draft?

Well booster draft will cost £7.50 but each 4 points will knock £2.50 off so if takes you untill 6pm to obtain 12 points
you could draft for free assuming other players want to draft. Generally speaking most players are keen to draft after 5pm.

This event sounds fantastic, but can you answer one more Question?
